2003
Our Beginning
Port Sorell Medical Centre was established in August 2003 to serve the growing communities of Port Sorell, Shearwater, and Hawley Beach.
2009
Purpose-Built for Our Patients
In June 2009, we moved into our purpose-built premises at 81 Club Drive, Shearwater, designed to offer modern, spacious, and comfortable care for our patients
2012
Expansion to Meet Growing Needs
With our community and practice expanding, we completed an extension in 2012, adding more consultation rooms and improving our facilities to better serve our patients.
2018
Recognized for Excellence
Port Sorell Medical Centre was honored as the Tasmanian Practice of the Year, a testament to our dedication to high-quality patient care and service.
2024
& Training the Future
This year, we secured the Single Employer Module (SEM) grant from the Tasmanian Government, Department of Health, enabling us to build:
- Two additional consultation rooms
- A new nurse treatment/assessment room
- An updated lunchroom
- A purpose-built training and meeting space to support the next generation of General Practitioners.
Additionally, in 2024, Port Sorell Medical Centre was recognised by PenCS, being named a finalist and the Australian winner of their Data Quality Award, highlighting our commitment to excellence in healthcare data management.
GROWING TOGETHER
Our Practice treats a broad range of patient demographics, from young families through to our older resident population, with services including but not limited to, chronic disease management, skin procedures, health assessments, venesections, and infusions, pathology services, wound management, medicals, and workers compensation. Currently our books are only open to new patients that live in our community and nearby suburbs.

We are a caring, family practice of seven General Practitioners, supported by a dedicated, friendly team including four Practice Nurses, a Phlebotomist, Practice Manager, Office manager, Office Supervisor, and six Reception staff.
Located in a vibrant seaside community on the Northwest coast of Tasmania, we are just a short drive from Devonport Airport and the city of Devonport—home of the Spirit of Tasmania.
